Bible Principles - The Complete Gospels

The 19th and 20th Centuries revealed a large collection of Gospels that had been suppressed by institutional Christianity in its goal of creating a new form of Christianity that would be supportive of elite control.

As we examine the Gnostic Gospels, we discover that there was a vast array of thought forms and approaches. "Scuela" or Schools of Thought and lineage traditions mirroring other traditions such as Buddhism were the means of maintaining a variety of thought and viewpoints insuring a diverse tradition.

Gnosticism promotes individual understanding The idea that each person is capable of enlightenment and transcendence through a direct personal exploration of spiritual practices in order to reveal the foundational truths that underpin existence. This idea of personal exploration and individual understanding stands in direct contrast to regimented approaches which rely upon the memorization of creeds and mastery of a system of thought to the exclusion of original insight.

The homogeneity promoted by the "orthodox" Christians is much easier to control and use in the service of elite interests. Elites said then as they do today: "Why teach them to think when this will simply create more challenges to effective control." Other elites felt and still feel: "Learning how to think creatively could not only destabilize elite control but takes work and 'average Joe' doesn't want to know, so give him a a pattern to follow than does not demand any effort. This viewpoint ensures the proper effects desired by the Emperor and top economic elites.

Jesus said, "Know what is in front of your face, and what is hidden from you will be disclosed to you.

For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. [And there is nothing buried that will not be raised.]"

-- Gospel of Thomas 1:5

The Orthodox Catholic Church promoted a warped viewpoint of Gnosticism which has often been echoed by lesser minds. When we begin to understand that the mere presence of certain books in any collection does not mean that said books are dominant within the overall movement, especially if this movement is diverse in thoughtforms, then we embark upon the true path of understanding.

The essential characteristics of Gnosticism are outlined above. Gnostics believe that:

"the attainment of such knowledge is the supreme achievement of human life. Gnosis is not a rational, propositional, logical understanding, but a knowing acquired by experience. The Gnostics were not much interested in dogma or coherent, rational theology -- a fact that makes the study of Gnosticism particularly difficult for individuals with "bookkeeper mentalities.... The Gnostics cherished the ongoing force of divine revelation--Gnosis was the creative experience of revelation, a rushing progression of understanding, and not a static creed.

Carl Gustav Jung, the great Swiss psychologist and a life-long student of Gnosticism in its various historical permutations, affirms,

'…We find in Gnosticism what was lacking in the centuries that followed: a belief in the efficacy of individual revelation and individual knowledge. This belief was rooted in the proud feeling of man's affinity with the gods....'"
